Non-surgical fat reduction treatments offered at body contouring clinics, such as the EMSculpt procedure, have been wildly growing in popularity due to the incredible results they can achieve.
Seriously – who wouldn’t want to noticeably tone, strengthen and firm up their physique with no effort required? These treatments that are comparable to non-surgical tummy tucks are seriously capable of achieving results that only a diligent workout routine and dietary changes over months could do!
However, a common question that arises about treatments like EMSculpt is whether or not they’re completely safe and healthy to undergo.
For example, one question from a concerned patient asks whether electromagnetic energy can cause cancer. When in fact, the National Cancer Institute provides an article explaining the difference between safe vs. dangerous electromagnetic energy – and good news: the low-frequency levels of electromagnetic energy used in EMSculpt are absolutely safe.
The article states that “These [Electromagnetic Fields] are in the non-ionizing radiation part of the electromagnetic spectrum and are not known to damage DNA or cells directly.” As with EMSculpt, the electromagnetic waves gently work to stimulate skeletal muscle motor nerves with no damage caused to tissues or cells.
Furthermore, EMSculpt is FDA-approved.
And since it is an entirely non-invasive procedure, this also means that it requires no downtime along with very little risk of potential side effects. In fact, the most common side effect with non invasive body sculpting procedures like EMSculpt is simply the sensation of muscle soreness after treatment – comparable to that of soreness experienced the day after a vigorous workout – and that only means that the treatment is working its magic!
Ok, so it’s safe – but is it safe for everyone?
It’s important to note that not everyone is a great candidate for the EMSclupt procedure. Because the machine uses High Intensity Focused Electro Magnetic (HIFEM) technology to activate and stimulate powerful muscle contractions, those with any implanted medical devices or metal pieces such as pacemakers, for example, should not undergo this procedure.
Additionally, any pregnant patients, or patients who have an IUD (intrauterine device) composed of metal, should also refrain from EMSculpt treatment.
Besides that, this non-invasive body sculpting procedure offered at our Burlington clinic is certainly safe for just about anyone provided they don’t fit any of the criteria above!
